WAU Softball Sweeps Fisher College in Triple Header
TAKOMA PARK, MD- The WAU softball team (10-18) started their five-game series with its CAC conference mate Fisher College (2-27). The series started today with a triple header held at Daly Field in Brighton, MA, at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm. The Shock, led by head coach Alana Rhone, came out strong, and they never looked back. WAU's offense was on fire, and they scored 27 runs in total, while their defense was impenetrable, keeping Fisher College from scoring any runs.
GAME 1: WAU 9, FISHER 0
WAU scored nine unanswered runs in five innings. The Shock picked up multi-hit performances from Annabell Estrada (2-for-3), Eryn Scott(2-for-2), and Jasmine Hernandez (2-for-3), while two additional batters earned a hit in the victory over the Falcons.
Estrada started the party as she stole second, while Sophia Del Bosque scored on a throwing error by the Falcons. Then, Scott bunted a single to Fisher's pitcher, advancing to second on the throw, while Delihla Garcia advanced to third on the throw, allowing Estrada to cross home plate. Next, Hernandez singled to right field and notched an RBI double, allowing Scott and D. Garcia to score, giving the Shock the 4-0 advantage in the first inning.
At the top of the third, Scott singled to center field, allowing Infinity Chacon to score for the Shock, giving WAU the 5-0 advantage in the third inning.
Adding to the Shock runs, Kayla Ramos, Estrada, Mia Garcia, and Scott scored four runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and WAU claimed the 9-0 victory in five innings.
Hernandez pitched the whole game facing 16 batters, landing 33 strikes of her 51 pitches.
GAME 2: WAU 9, FISHER 0
The first inning was quiet as both teams held each other scoreless. However, the Shock wasted no time jumping out to a sizeable lead, scoring nine unanswered runs in the second and third innings. First, Ramos reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop and advanced to second on the error, while Scott ran from first base to home and scored on the throw. Then, Allendria Russell reached first on a throwing error by the shortstop and advanced to second, while Ramos ran from second to home and scored on the error. Next, Del Bosque tripled to left field, allowing Russell to score, giving the Shock the 3-0 advantage in the second inning.
At the top of the third inning, M. Garcia singled through the left side, allowing Chacon to score. Then, Russell singled to left field, notching an RBI double with Savannah Bayles and M. Garcia scoring for the Shock. Next, Estrada sacrificed a fly, advancing Del Bosque to second, Russell to third, and Ramos to crossing home plate. Finally, D. Garcia reached first on a dropped fly by left field, allowing Del Bosque and Russell to score the last two runs of the game, giving the Shock another 9-0 victory over the Falcons.
Bayles pitched the game facing 20 batters, landing 58 strikes of her 87 pitches. Chacon landed a perfect hitting performance (3-for-3), while four additional batters earned a hit in the victory over the Falcons.
GAME 3: WAU 9, FISHER 0
The Shock continued their offensive momentum into game three, scoring nine unanswered runs in five innings. First, M. Garcia singled to center field while Estrada scored, giving the Shock the 1-0 advantage in the first inning. Then, at the top of the second, Del Bosque singled to left field while Ramos scored; with the bases loaded, Estrada singled to left field while Russell scored; also, with the bases loaded, D. Garcia singled to right field while Dreyana Hinton scored; and finally, D. Garcia advanced to third on a wild pitch while Estrada scored, giving the Shock the 5-0 advantage in the second inning.
At the top of the fifth inning, Scott reached first on a throwing error by the pitcher while Chacon scored; Ramos singled through the left side while M. Garcia scored; Russell sacrificed a fly out to left field while Scott scored, and finally, Del Bosque grounded out to the pitcher while Ramos scored, the last Shock run of the night, giving the Shock another 9-0 victory over the Falcons.
D. Garcia pitched the game facing 16 batters, landing 36 strikes of her 58 pitches. M. Garcia landed a perfect hitting performance (3-for-3), Del Bosque added (2-for-4), while five additional batters earned a hit in the victory over the Falcons.
