WAU Men’s Basketball Battles Hard but Falls to Villa Maria College 79-71 at Bobcat Bash Tournament

Buffalo, NY – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) men's basketball team put up a strong fight but ultimately fell short in a 79-71 loss to Villa Maria College on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Bobcat Bash Tournament hosted by Bryant & Stratton Buffalo. Despite a late push and solid performances, the Shock were unable to overcome Villa Maria's steady play down the stretch.

The game was tightly contested from the start, with both teams trading leads in the first half. WAU's Anthony Perry delivered an impressive scoring performance, keeping the Shock within reach of Villa Maria. However, Villa Maria managed to close the first half with a small lead, entering halftime ahead 34-28.

In the second half, WAU ramped up their intensity, with Julian King and Rande Harper making critical contributions to bring the Shock back within striking distance. WAU's defense forced key turnovers, and their offensive pace kept Villa Maria on their toes. However, Villa Maria hit timely shots and capitalized on free throws in the final minutes to hold off WAU's comeback attempt and secure the 79-71 victory.

The Shock shot 39.1 percent (25-of-64) from the field, with ten of its makes coming from long range. Perry led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 20 points and five rebounds, while Harper followed with 16 points, seven rebounds, seven steals, and four assists.

King (15), Jalen Anderson (8), Set Wright (5), Chase Cooke (3), James Quin (2), and Jaylin McNeil (3) also found the scoring column. Nine Shock players saw time on the floor.

With this loss, WAU's season record moves to 0-4. The Shock will look to regroup and find their first win as they prepare for their next matchup facing the host of the Bobcat Bash Tournament, Bryant & Stratton-Buffalo on Sunday, November 10 at 6:00 p.m., aiming to turn their competitive energy into a victory.
