WAU Men’s Basketball Falls to Norfolk State

NORFOLK, VA – The Washington Adventist University men's basketball team faced a formidable opponent on Monday, January 20, falling to NCAA Division I Norfolk State University 42-105 in a challenging road matchup.

The Shock struggled to find their rhythm against the Spartans, who showcased their strength on both ends of the court. Norfolk State's defensive pressure and offensive efficiency set the tone early, leaving WAU fighting to close the gap throughout the game.

Despite the loss, several WAU players showed resilience. Jaylin McNeil continued his steady contributions on the boards, while guard Emanuel Hylton worked tirelessly to facilitate plays under intense defensive pressure. However, the Shock was unable to overcome the size, speed, and depth of the Spartans.

The Shock shot 20 percent (12-of-60) from the field, with six of its makes coming from long range. Hylton led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 15 points and rebounds, while Felix McGhee followed with 10 points and four rebounds.

Jayden Rowe-Perry (8), James Quinn (4), Jalen Anderson (2), and McNeil (2) also found the scoring column. Seven Shock players saw time on the floor.

This game served as a valuable learning experience for WAU as they look to regroup and refocus heading into more conference play. The loss drops WAU to 6-8 on the season. The Shock will look to bounce back as they hit the road for the Spartanburg CAC Classic, opening Friday at 4 p.m. against Morris College on January 24 in Spartanburg, SC.
