WAU Men's Soccer Leads NAIA Nationally Across Five Metrics After 3-0 Shutout over NCAA Division II Shaw University

TAKOMA PARK, MD - The WAU men's soccer team (6-1, 0-0) continues to impress as they secured another dominant victory, defeating Shaw University 3-0 on September 10, 2023. With this latest win, the Shock has claimed six victories in their first seven games, highlighting their prowess on the field.

From the very beginning of the match, it was evident that WAU had come prepared to dominate. The team exhibited exceptional teamwork, executing precise passes and demonstrating outstanding communication throughout the game. This cohesive approach allowed them to mount offensive pressure, creating numerous scoring opportunities constantly.

"Our result the other night was a fantastic display of dominance against a quality, reputable NCAA II side," said head coach Daniel Carroll. "It is difficult for us to play against Nationally Ranked teams every week given the nature of our conference and our budget constraints; however, we were happy to get an established winning program to play us here in the DMV area."

The Shock displayed their scoring prowess, exemplified by their remarkable tally of 44 goals in just seven games. Their attacking style of play, combined with the individual skills of their players, has proven to be an unstoppable force against their opponents. They have consistently found the back of the net, showcasing their ability to capitalize on scoring chances.

Not only have they been impressive in scoring goals, but the team has also excelled in setting up their teammates for success. With 30 assists this season, they have shown selflessness and a commitment to teamwork. This unselfish play has been a key factor in their success, allowing them to diversify their attacking options and keep their opponents guessing.

The Shock's impressive offensive display is further emphasized by their total shot count of 147, with 94 of those shots finding their mark on target. This statistic showcases their ability to consistently create opportunities and their accuracy in executing them. Their precision in hitting the target has undoubtedly contributed to their dominant performances.

However, the team's success is only partially due to their offensive capabilities. They have also demonstrated formidable defensive skills, highlighted by their remarkable five shutouts. This defensive excellence has played a significant role in securing victories for the team. Their ability to shut down opposing offenses and keep clean sheets has proven to be a crucial aspect of their game.

With their stellar performance, the WAU men's soccer team currently holds the top spot nationally across five crucial metrics, a testament to their talent, hard work, and determination. Their consistent victories and impressive statistics have undoubtedly earned them recognition and respect within the NAIA.

The team can undoubtedly build on their early success as the season progresses. Fueled by their dominant performance against Shaw University (3-1-1, 0-0), they continue to prove themselves as a force to be reckoned with. With their attacking prowess, selfless play, and solid defense, the Shock is well-positioned to continue their winning streak and make a substantial impact within the NAIA.

"The boys enjoyed a well-balanced battle in the game, but ultimately, moments of magic our lads created - which is something they are getting better and better at, game by game that allowed us to put the game to bed," said Carroll. "This group is incredibly gifted and loves to be challenged with new roles and responsibilities on the field that will help them to grow and mature as players. The boys are bright-eyed, curious, and willing to learn, so I can't ask for more. I do ask for more, though: more goals, more synergy, more speed in the play, and because they are quality young men and young soccer players, they take delight in keeping the standards high. The boys want to be challenged because they know that is where growth and success lie, and they most certainly have their eyes on the prize. Every game is a stepping stone toward the Conference and National Tournament and an opportunity to learn and reflect on our newly birthed culture, identity, and potential as a team."
