Takoma Park, MD – Washington Adventist University (WAU) men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Goldey-Beacom College in their home opener on Thursday, October 3, 2024. The tightly contested match saw the Shock deliver a strong defensive performance, allowing them to come out on top in front of their home crowd.
The lone goal of the game came in the first half, with Marcos Hernandez Molina finding the back of the net in the 9th minute. After pushing through multiple defenders, Hernandez Molina calmly slotted the ball past the Goldey-Beacom goalkeeper to give WAU the crucial 1-0 lead.
The Shock's defense, led by goalkeeper Gregorio Capponi, remained solid throughout the match, fending off multiple attacks from Goldey-Beacom. Capponi made eight key saves to preserve the clean sheet and ensure the victory for WAU.
With the win, WAU improves their record to 2-2-2, 0-0-1. The Shock will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next match, hosting Carolina University on Saturday, October 12 in Takoma Park, MD.
