WAU Softball Completes Series with Fisher College 5-0

TAKOMA PARK, MD- The WAU softball team (12-18, 5-0) finished their five-game series with its CAC conference mate Fisher College (2-29). The series ended yesterday afternoon with a doubleheader held at Medway High School in Medway, MA. After the 3-0 series shutout on Friday, WAU continued their offensive momentum, scoring 28 runs in total, while their defense was strong, keeping Fisher College to three runs through the series. The Shock are now 5-0 in conference play.

 

GAME 1: WAU 11, FISHER 0

WAU scored eleven unanswered runs in five innings. The Shock picked up multi-hit performances from Mia Garcia (3-for-4), Delihla Garcia (2-for-4), and Annabelle Estrada (2-for-4), while three additional batters earned a hit in the victory over the Falcons.

 

D. Garcia started the party as she tripled to left field, allowing Estrada and Garcia to score on a throwing error by the Falcon's centerfielder. Then, M. Garcia doubled to right field, allowing Infinity Chacon to give the Shock the 3-0 advantage in the first inning. 

 

At the top of the third, M. Garcia stole the show as she homered to center field inside the park, allowing Chacon and herself to score for the Shock, giving WAU the 5-0 advantage in the third inning.

 

At the top of the fifth inning, Kayla Ramos reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop, allowing Eryn Scott to score. Then, Estrada singled through the left side, allowing Ramos to score. Next, D. Garcia singled to left field, notching an RBI double with Sophia Del Bosque and Dreyana Hinton scoring for the Shock. Next, M. Garcia singled through the right side, allowing Estrada to score her second run of the contest. Finally, Scott singled to center field, allowing D. Garcia to score her second run of the game, giving the Shock another 11-0 victory over the Falcons.

 

Jasmine Hernandez pitched the whole game facing 17 batters, landing 41 strikes out of her 60 pitches.

 

 

 

GAME 2: WAU 17, FISHER 3

At the beginning of the day's second match, the Falcons opened the scoring as Jenna Malone scored on a wild pitch. However, the Shock wasted no time responding in the third inning. First, M. Garcia doubled to left center, notching an RBI triple with Chacon, D. Garcia, and Estrada scoring for the Shock while also scoring on a throwing error by the Falcon's catcher herself. Then, the Falcons answered with two runs, giving the Shock the 4-3 advantage in the third inning.

 

In the next three innings, the Shock scored thirteen unanswered runs. At the top of the fourth inning, D. Garcia singled through the left side, allowing Russell to score. Then, M. Garcia singled through the left side, allowing D. Garcia to score, giving the Shock another 6-3 advantage.

 

At the top of the fifth inning, Ramos singled up the middle while Bayles scored; Bayles sacrificed a fly out to left field while Ramos scored; M. Garcia walked, allowing Russell to score; with the bases loaded, D. Garcia scored on a wild pitch, giving the Shock the 10-3 advantage in the fifth inning.

 

At the top of the sixth inning, Del Bosque reached first base on a fielding error by second base, allowing Bayle to score; Ramos scored on a wild pitch; Estrada singled to third base while Russell scored; with the bases loaded, M. Garcia tripled to left center notching her second RBI triple of the night with Chacon, Estrada, and Del Bosque scoring for the Shock; finally, Scott grounded out to first base while M. Garcia scored the last Shock run of the night, giving the Shock the 17-3 victory over the Falcons.

 

Bayles and D. Garcia pitched the final game of the season. Bayles faced 14 batters, landing 28 strikes out of her 62 pitches. D. Garcia faced 11 batters, landing 32 strikes out of her 47 pitches. The Shock picked up multi-hit performances from M. Garcia (3-for-4), Bayles (2-for-4), and Ramos (2-for-5), while five additional batters earned a hit in the victory over the Falcons.

 

 


JOIN THE SHOCK

The Washington Adventist University (WAU) softball team invites prospective players to showcase their skills at an open prospect practice day on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the WAU Turf Field. The event is open to all high school and junior college players. The open prospect practice day will begin at 6 pm and end at 8 pm and will be an excellent opportunity for prospective players to meet and interact with the current members of the WAU softball team. The event will also allow players to showcase their skills and abilities in front of the coaching staff.

Players who are interested in attending the prospect practice day can register HERE. Prospects are encouraged to bring their equipment, including gloves, cleats, and bats. The coaching staff will provide additional equipment as needed.
