LAWRENCE, KS - The fifth-seeded WAU women's basketball team (20-6, 6-1) begins their 2024 CAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament journey on Friday, March 1, at 3 p.m. CST (4:00 p.m. EST) as they take on fourth-seeded host, Haskell Indian Nations University (8-19) in the quarter-finals in Lawrence, Kansas.
"It's always an honor to be able to represent Washington Adventist University after a year-long work during the season," said head coach Jered Lyons. "We've made history, and now it's time to accomplish something we've never done before!"
The 2024 CAC women's basketball championship tournament will be the Shock's sixth straight conference tournament appearance, the most in program history. The Shock has eight total tournament appearances in program history. After a canceled 2020-2021 season due to COVID and semi-final conference tournament losses in 2019-2020, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023, the Shock are eager to return this year. The Shock also reached a historic milestone, finishing with the best overall record in program history.
WAU leads the CAC in scoring at 82.4 points per contest and is riding a 10-game winning streak. Sarah Shamdeen is averaging 14.9 points per game to lead the Shock. She ranks second on the team with 54 3-point field goals. Kelly Luck has connected on 57 3-pointers to average 12.7 points per contest. Shelby Ricks rounds out the balanced offensive attack at 14.5 points per game.
Friday's winners will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday, March 2, with the championship game following Sunday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m. CST (7:30 p.m. EST). The two teams competing for the title will earn automatic bids to represent the CAC in the NAIA national championship tournament.
