
WAU Women’s Basketball Overpowered by Georgetown College, Falls 101-54 on the Road
Georgetown, KY – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) women's basketball team faced a formidable opponent at Georgetown College on Thursday, November 14, falling 101-54 in a tough road matchup. The Shock battled hard but struggled to counter the Tigers' size, speed, and scoring depth.
WAU opened the game with a commanding offensive performance, quickly building a 4-0 lead. Despite the early deficit, Georgetown quickly turned the tables. The Shock fought to stay in the game with Tye Queen leading the scoring effort and Isabela Lujan-Gonzales adding key defensive stops. The Shock trailed 38-23 at halftime.
In the second half, WAU made adjustments and managed to put together several scoring runs, with Lujan-Gonzales hitting 3 three-pointers and Bethany Fowler driving to the basket for critical points. However, Georgetown continued to dominate in transition and on the boards, steadily extending their lead and securing the 101-54 victory.
The Shock shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the field, with six of its makes coming from long range. Lujan-Gonzales led the Shock in scoring finishing with 15 points and three steals, while Queen followed with 12 points and three rebounds.
Fowler (9), Colon Velez (7), Abby Bryant (7), and Melanie Aguilar (4) also found the scoring column. Eight Shock players saw time on the floor.
With the loss, WAU's record stands at 3-3. The Shock will aim to bounce back in their next game, a home opener hosting Virginia University Lynchburg on Sunday, November 17 in Takoma Park, MD.
