WAU Women’s Volleyball Gears Up for Home Opener Against Cheyney University
Takoma Park, MD – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) women's volleyball team is set to make their much-anticipated home debut tomorrow, September 5, against Cheyney University. After a rigorous preseason and early scrimmages, the Shock are eager to showcase their skills in front of their home crowd at The Pitt, aiming to start their home campaign on a high note.
The team has been hard at work during the offseason, focusing on building chemistry, refining their strategies, and strengthening their skills after not competing for the 2023-2024 season. This dedication and determination are something we can all be proud of and it's a testament to the team's commitment to excellence. Under the guidance of assistant coach Anastasia Allen, a mix of returning veterans and promising new talent are poised to make a strong impression this season.
"I'm very excited for the volleyball season opener," said Coach Allen. "This group of players are very unique and have a lot to prove. We have been preparing for this for the past two weeks, and I'm very excited to see what they will produce."
Leading the charge for the Shock is veteran Samaiah Gross, a standout outside hitter known for her leadership and all-around play. Alongside her are her sister, Ariyanna Gross, veteran Lynell White, and several newcomers who will be crucial in WAU's offensive and defensive efforts. The team's energy and versatility will be on full display as they take on a competitive Cheyney University squad.
WAU is encouraging all students, faculty, and local fans to come out and support the team in what promises to be an electrifying atmosphere. The home opener is not just about the match but also about celebrating the start of a new season and the community spirit surrounding WAU athletics. In the words of Coach Allen, "Let's pack the Pitt!"
Following the home opener, WAU will continue their season with a mix of home and away games, facing off against some of the top teams in the region. The Shock are determined to build momentum and aim for a spot in the 2024 Continental Athletic Conference Championships.
The match against Cheyney University begins at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 7:00 p.m.
